Celestron NexStar 130SLT
130mm GoTo reflector that finds 4,000+ objects automatically, built for beginners ready to explore beyond the Moon
Performance Scores
Overview
The NexStar 130SLT is a Newtonian reflector with a 130mm aperture and 650mm focal length, giving it an f/5 focal ratio that works well for both planetary and deep-sky observing. That aperture is enough to show Saturn's rings and cloud bands on Jupiter, resolve brighter globular clusters, and pick up larger nebulae like Orion and Andromeda under reasonably dark skies. The real selling point here is the computerized GoTo mount. After a simple alignment process using two or three bright stars, the mount will slew to any of its 4,000-plus objects automatically and keep them centered as Earth rotates.
This makes it genuinely useful for beginners who do not yet know their way around the sky. A few honest caveats: the included eyepieces are basic and worth upgrading early on. The alt-azimuth mount, while convenient, does not support long-exposure astrophotography. Collimation of the mirrors will be needed periodically, which adds a small learning curve.
At just over 5kg, the whole setup is portable enough for dark sky trips, which is where this telescope will perform best. For its price, it offers a solid balance of aperture, automation, and portability.

Last week I received my NexStar 130 SLT. I made the decision to buy this scope based almost entirely on the recommendations of reviewers both here on Amazon and elsewhere. This is my first telescope, and I will say will say up front that I am completely happy with this scope! Regarding the negative ...
My wife bought this scope for me for Christmas. I had no experience with astronomy prior to that. It's a little finicky to set up but once you do it correctly, it'll work well. The image may not be exactly in the center but it should be close. The eyepieces that come with it are just okay. They're a...
