Overview
The EvoGuide 50DX is built primarily as a guide scope for astrophotography setups, though its apochromatic ED doublet optics mean it can pull double duty as a compact astrograph with the right accessories. At 50mm aperture and 242mm focal length, the f/4.8 focal ratio keeps guide star acquisition quick and reliable, which is exactly what your autoguider needs to keep long exposures sharp. The ED glass controls chromatic aberration well for a scope in this price range, producing the clean, contrast-rich star images that make autoguiding software lock on more consistently.
It weighs just 1.22kg, so it adds minimal load to your main imaging rig, a real consideration when you are already balancing a heavy camera and telescope. Two mounting options, a finder stalk for Sky-Watcher brackets and a Vixen-style dovetail rail, give you genuine flexibility depending on your setup. The 1.25-inch helical focuser works smoothly for guide camera placement, though for serious astroimaging use you will want to add the optional T-thread adapter separately.
At $299, this is a premium guide scope price point, but the apochromatic optics justify the cost if you want reliable guiding performance and occasional wide-field imaging capability in one package.

I got this for a guild scope, but it also works great with the Starzona field flattener for a lightweight imaging telescope. I found a 3D printed setup that clamps the scope and holds the mini computer, guild scope, and EAF focuser. There is a lot of backlash with the focuser, and I haven't gotten a...
Solid high quality, total value, absolute top shelf, light years above the other popular name brands. I've got 4 other guide scopes, the Sky Watcher just made them nearly obsolete with Pin Point stars! My guiding star size got reduced by 3 times, the auto multiple star guide picked out a dozen stars...
This little scope is surprisingly good for wide field astrophotography, but the field flattener (optional) is definitely required. I would give it five stars except that the focus mechanism (rather crude helix device) is (wow) not at all smooth turning to get really fine focus. You turn it one way a...
