Astromania Plossl 10mm
Solid budget Plossl that punches above its price for lunar and cluster work
Performance Scores
Overview
The Astromania 10mm Plossl is a straightforward, no-frills eyepiece that delivers reliable performance for observers on a budget. At 10mm focal length, it provides a solid mid-to-high magnification option depending on your telescope's focal length, making it well suited for the Moon, planetary detail, and tighter open clusters. The 50-degree apparent field of view is standard for Plossl designs, so do not expect the sweeping vistas of wider-field eyepieces, but what you get is a clean, sharp image across most of the field.
The fully multi-coated four-element optics do a respectable job managing contrast and light transmission, and most users report minimal chromatic fringing for the price point. Eye relief at 10mm is on the shorter side, which is a genuine consideration if you wear eyeglasses while observing. The fold-down rubber eyeguard helps somewhat, but eyeglass wearers may find it slightly uncomfortable over long sessions.
Build quality is decent for the price, with an aluminum alloy barrel and matte-blackened lens edges that help control stray light. Standard 1.25-inch threading means it is compatible with filters and Barlows without any adapters. At under $18, it is a practical starter or backup eyepiece with a strong track record among beginners.

I have been quite impressed with the eyepieces in this lineup. I've seen what appear to be the same eyepieces sold under several different brands, and all of them appear to be very high quality. This is the first one I've purchased through Amazon, so I thought I'd go ahead and share my impressions. ...
Really nice quality eyepiece from Astromania! I purchased the 6mm Plossl and it gives me a beautifully sharp image in my telescope. Apparent field of view (AFOV) is surprisingly good and stars are pinpoint in the entire field with no stray reflections. Only minor nitpick is because it's a high power...
Well made. In daytime with an f/4.7 apochromatic telescope this eyepiece is like a panoramic window. At night, stars are sharp, there is perhaps a barely visible distortion at the edges but truly minor. Frankly my eyeglasses cause more distortion than this eyepiece. I didn't notice reflections even ...
