Overview

The Vaonis Vespera II is built for astronomers who want to spend their nights looking at deep-sky objects rather than wrestling with equipment. At 50mm aperture and f/5 focal ratio, it is not competing with large Dobsonians for raw light-gathering power, but that is not its purpose. This is a self-contained observation station that handles alignment, focusing, and tracking automatically, then stacks exposures in real time through the companion app on your phone or tablet.

The Sony IMX585 color sensor delivers genuinely impressive results for a telescope this size, and the CovalENS technology pushes effective resolution up to 32 megapixels, which means nebulae and galaxies come through with real detail and color rather than faint smudges. The alt-az GoTo mount keeps targets centered without any input from you. At 7.12 kilograms with a collapsible tripod included, you can carry this to a dark site without planning around it.

The tradeoff is aperture; serious planetary or binary star work will leave you wanting more. But for wide-field deep-sky imaging shared live with friends or family, the Vespera II genuinely delivers on its promises at a price point around $1,930.

Key Features

  • Fully automated alignment and autofocus mean you are imaging within minutes of setup, no star charts or calibration required
  • Live stacking in the app lets you watch deep-sky objects build detail in real time during your session
  • Sony IMX585 sensor provides strong color sensitivity and low noise, which helps significantly under light-polluted skies
  • At 7.12kg with tripod included, it travels easily to dark sites without requiring dedicated transport
  • The 50mm aperture is honest about its limits, best suited to extended deep-sky objects like nebulae and galaxies rather than planets
  • A 3-year warranty and beginner-friendly app lower the barrier for newcomers who would otherwise feel intimidated by traditional setups
