Overview
The Hugerstar 80mm refractor offers a practical entry point into visual astronomy without requiring any prior experience. The 80mm aperture and 500mm focal length (f/6.3) deliver enough light-gathering ability to show clear lunar craters, Saturn's rings, Jupiter's cloud bands, and double stars on steady nights. Fully multi-coated optics help maximize contrast and brightness, which matters more than most beginners expect at this price range. Two included eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) combined with the 3x Barlow lens give you a working magnification range of 20x to 150x.
In practice, the lower end of that range will give you the sharpest, most usable views; pushing to 150x depends heavily on atmospheric conditions and will often disappoint. The alt-azimuth mount is straightforward to operate but offers no tracking, so objects will drift out of view at higher magnifications. The 5x24 finder scope is modest but functional for locating bright targets. At 2.75kg, the whole setup travels easily, and the included backpack makes that genuinely convenient.
This scope is best suited for Moon and planetary viewing, casual daytime use, and introducing younger observers to the night sky. It is not a tool for deep-sky observing.

Key Features
- 80mm aperture gathers sufficient light for clear views of the Moon, planets, and brighter deep-sky objects
- Fully multi-coated lenses improve contrast and brightness compared to basic single-coated optics common at this price
- Three magnification options (20x, 60x, 75x, 150x via two eyepieces and a 3x Barlow) cover a wide range of observing targets
- Alt-azimuth mount is intuitive for beginners but has no tracking, which limits high-magnification sessions
- Lightweight at 2.75kg with an included backpack, making it genuinely portable for camping or travel
- Smartphone adapter allows basic lunar photography without additional equipment
- The 5x24 finder scope is adequate for locating the Moon and bright planets, though it will struggle on fainter targets

I recently got a beginner telescope, and I have to say, it’s been a game changer for my stargazing adventures! As someone who knows very little about astronomy, I was a bit intimidated at first, but this telescope is user-friendly and really easy to set up. The first night out, I was able to clearly...
I couldn’t be happier with my Hugerstar 550mm refractor telescope! From the moment I set it up, I was impressed by the overall quality and thoughtful design. The 90mm aperture gathers plenty of light, and the 550mm focal length provides crisp, clear views of the Moon, and planets like Jupiter! The i...
This telescope is awesome. It's pictures are clear, the set up is a little cumbersome but it is well worth the price. The only downfall is the cellphone adapter. Because the neck on the eye piece is short, if you have a side button power switch it will turn your phone off. If you use a case with you...
