Overview
The Sky-Watcher SkyMax 102 is a 102mm Maksutov-Cassegrain with a 1300mm focal length and an f/12.7 focal ratio, a combination that makes it particularly well suited for high-magnification planetary and lunar work. The long focal length means you can reach useful magnifications with ordinary eyepieces, and the Maksutov design produces sharp, high-contrast views that shorter refractors or faster reflectors often struggle to match on planets. The matched primary and secondary mirrors, combined with 94% reflectivity coatings on the borosilicate primary, help deliver crisp detail on Saturn's rings, Jupiter's cloud bands, and the Moon's craters.
Weighing just over 2kg, it is genuinely portable, and the included padded bag makes transport straightforward. The Vixen-style dovetail gives you flexibility to mount it on a range of alt-az or equatorial heads. Be aware that the alt-az mount included is basic, better suited for casual visual use than any serious planetary imaging.
The included 10mm and 25mm eyepieces are a reasonable starting point, though upgrading the eyepieces later will help the optics perform closer to their potential.

I'm amazed at how excellent this compact scope is while being in such a small / compact package at such a great value. Sharp and high-contrast views with the ability to push the limits of magnification with it's long folded focal length and high-quality optics. At only 5 lbs, it makes an excellent "...
I like very much. Can see more detail on nebulas than I could with my other scopes. One is quite larger. Good on planets. Can finally see the bands on Jupiter and Saturn! Nice and light, easy to bring in and out, so getting alot of use. Also a perfect travel scope that sees good detail. And I've eve...
So far so good. The one I bought was sold as "used- very good" and was heavily discounted. The version I received, to my relief, had the collimation screws as advertised on Amazon for the new model. A speck of debris inside the tube immediately caught my eye. Shining a light into the tube (never do ...
