Overview

The Explore Scientific FL-AR102600TN pairs a 102mm aperture with a 600mm focal length, giving you a fast f/6.47 focal ratio that works well for wide-field viewing of open clusters, nebulae, and the Moon. The shorter tube makes this a reasonably portable setup, and the included Twilight Nano alt-az mount handles the 8.39kg total weight adequately for casual visual use, though it lacks the precision of a heavier equatorial mount. The included 25mm Plossl eyepiece delivers a solid starting magnification of roughly 24x, which is a sensible choice for getting oriented in the sky.

The 40mm draw tube focuser is functional, though upgraders will likely want a better focuser down the road. A red dot finder and smartphone camera adapter round out the package, making this accessible for beginners wanting to try basic astrophotography of the Moon and bright planets. At this aperture and price, chromatic aberration will be noticeable on bright targets like the Moon and Venus, which is a known trade-off with non-apochromatic refractors at this price point.

Key Features

  • 102mm aperture gathers enough light for clear lunar detail, bright nebulae, and open star clusters
  • f/6.47 focal ratio produces wide, bright fields well suited to deep-sky browsing and star hopping
  • Twilight Nano alt-az mount offers simple, intuitive movement for visual use without complex setup
  • Included smartphone adapter lets beginners capture Moon and bright planet photos immediately
  • Compact tube length relative to aperture makes transport and storage more manageable than longer refractors
  • 25mm Plossl eyepiece provides a practical starting magnification; additional eyepieces will expand the telescope's range significantly
  • Non-apochromatic design means visible color fringing on high-contrast targets, a real limitation for planetary detail work

Great moon telescope for a 10 year old

Great for looking at the moon.

Great price, but some serious problems

A nice looking scope and terrific price for 102mm objective lens, but serious problems you should know about: 1. Design of the focus tube is far too long for the wide light beam of an f/6.5 telescope. Result is like looking thru soda straw. Much of the 102mm lens is vignette by the focus tube. Resul...
