Overview
The Explore Scientific FirstLight AR90 gives beginning astronomers a meaningful step up from department-store scopes without a steep learning curve. The 90mm aperture collects enough light to show you Saturn's rings, Jupiter's cloud bands, lunar craters in sharp detail, and brighter deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula and Andromeda Galaxy. At f/5.6 with a 500mm focal length, this is a wide-field instrument, better suited for sweeping star clusters and extended nebulae than for squeezing maximum magnification out of planets.
The doublet lens design reduces chromatic aberration reasonably well for this price range, though some color fringing on bright objects is still likely. The included 9mm and 20mm Kellner eyepieces give you two useful starting magnifications, roughly 55x and 25x, and the red dot finder makes locating objects straightforward. The aluminum alt-azimuth yoke mount is simple to operate, which is genuinely useful when you are learning to navigate the sky.
At just over 5.5kg total, the whole setup is portable enough to move between your backyard and a darker site. This scope will not replace a dedicated planetary instrument, but for a first serious telescope under $130, it offers honest optical performance and room to grow.

Can’t get an image through the lens. It’s far too short does not extend up high enough.
Great beginner's telescope, flimsy tripod though.
It seems like a great price for a 90mm coated glass doublet, but it's very frustrating to use. PROS: Mine has a nice objective lens. Views of the moon were surprisingly clear and sharp, if using good eyepieces. I mostly used wide and sharp Explore Scientific 15mm 72 degree and a SvBony zoom (surpris...
