Overview

The Celestron Omni 6mm is a short focal length eyepiece designed for high magnification work, making it most useful for planetary observation, lunar detail, and tighter double stars. Paired with a typical 900mm focal length refractor, you are looking at 150x magnification, and with longer focal length scopes the numbers climb quickly, so your telescope's aperture and atmospheric seeing will often be the limiting factor, not this eyepiece. The four-element Plossl design is a proven, well-corrected optical formula, and Celestron has applied fully multi-coated optics and blackened lens edges to squeeze out solid contrast at this price point.

The 50-degree apparent field of view is on the narrower side compared to wider-angle designs, which some observers find limiting at high magnification, but it is a reasonable tradeoff for the cost. Eye relief at 6mm focal length is short, which is typical for any Plossl in this range. Eyeglass wearers may find this uncomfortable, though the foldable rubber eyecup helps somewhat.

For observers without glasses, the viewing experience is generally comfortable. At around $32, this is a genuinely useful eyepiece for anyone building out a starter kit without overspending.

Key Features

  • Four-element Plossl design delivers sharp, well-corrected images for planetary and lunar targets
  • Fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission and contrast across the field
  • Blackened lens edges reduce internal scatter, which matters most at high magnification
  • Aluminum barrel with threaded end accepts standard 1.25-inch filters for Moon or narrowband use
  • Foldable rubber eyecup offers some accommodation for eyeglass wearers, though short eye relief remains a real consideration
  • 50-degree apparent field of view is modest but adequate for high magnification planetary work
  • Backed by a two-year warranty and US-based support from an established manufacturer

Gift.

Great gift, fits to his telescope very well. This was a gift for my brother and I had it sent to SA. Value for money was excellent.

I like it

It works well, nice and clear. I feel it is a good value and a great addition to my modest set of eyepieces.
