Overview

The Celestron Luminos 19mm sits in a useful middle ground for visual observers. At 19mm focal length, it delivers a comfortable low-to-medium magnification depending on your scope, and the 82-degree apparent field of view gives you genuinely expansive, immersive views rather than the narrow "looking through a straw" feel of older designs. This makes it well suited for open clusters, nebulae, and scanning the Milky Way.

The fully multi-coated six or seven element optical design keeps contrast solid and light transmission high, which matters most when you are chasing faint objects under dark skies. One practical advantage is that all six Luminos eyepieces are parfocal, so if you own more than one in the series, switching between them during a session requires little or no refocusing. That is a genuine convenience rather than a gimmick.

The rubber grip and retractable eyecup make this a reasonable choice for observers who wear glasses or use gloves in cold conditions. At $199.95, it is not an impulse buy, but it competes well against similarly priced wide-field eyepieces from other established brands. Rated 4.5 out of 5 across over 200 Amazon reviews, it has a solid track record among users.

Key Features

  • 82-degree apparent field of view delivers noticeably wider, more engaging views than standard eyepieces
  • Parfocal design across the Luminos lineup reduces focusing time when swapping eyepieces mid-session
  • Fully multi-coated optics improve contrast and light transmission for better views of faint objects
  • Retractable eyecup accommodates both eyeglass wearers and those observing without glasses
  • Rubber grip improves handling in cold or gloved conditions, a real benefit during winter sessions
  • Threaded barrel accepts standard filters, adding flexibility for planetary or narrowband viewing
  • Backed by a two-year US warranty with US-based support from an established telescope manufacturer

It's so Big, but it's so Good!

What can you say about Luminos eyepieces? First impression, they are big and heavy. Lots of glass and metal that could put you over the limit on your mount if you are already close, but so worth the view! I now own the 31mm, 23mm, 19mm, and 15mm Luminos eyepieces. For the money they are a great valu...

A Quality, 2" Eyepiece

Really a fantastic eyepiece. Going from the stock, 1.25" EPs to this was very cool. This thing is as big as -- and solid as -- a grenade! Make sure you balance your OTA with it on before you use it. Best with a quality diagonal, of course. (I use a Celestron, Dielectric Star 2" on a C9.25 SCT.) Very...

Wide Views and Solid Build—Great for Deep Sky Observing

The build quality is excellent. It’s heavier than I expected, but that’s a testament to its sturdy anodized aluminum construction. The rubber grip is a nice touch, especially when observing in colder weather. I also appreciate the retractable eyecup, although I rarely use it fully extended.
