Overview

This 90mm aperture refractor operates at f/10 with a 900mm focal length, a combination that suits lunar and planetary observation reasonably well. The longer focal ratio helps control chromatic aberration, which is a common complaint with cheaper short-tube refractors at this price point. You can realistically expect clean views of lunar craters, Saturn's rings, and Jupiter's cloud bands under decent skies. The included H10mm and H25mm eyepieces give you starting magnifications of 90x and 36x respectively.

Adding the 3x Barlow pushes those to 270x and 108x. Be aware that 270x is aggressive for a 90mm aperture, and atmospheric conditions will limit how often you can use that upper range usefully. A practical ceiling for this aperture is closer to 180x on a steady night. The alt-azimuth mount keeps things simple for visual observing, though it is not suited for long-exposure astrophotography.

The 45-degree erecting diagonal is a practical choice, especially for daytime terrestrial use, though astronomers often prefer a standard 90-degree star diagonal for comfortable overhead viewing. At 4.8kg total weight, the setup is genuinely portable.

Key Features

  • 90mm aperture gathers enough light for clear views of the Moon, planets, and brighter deep-sky objects like star clusters
  • 900mm focal length at f/10 reduces chromatic fringing compared to faster budget refractors
  • Two eyepieces and a 3x Barlow provide a usable magnification range from 36x to 270x, though 180x is a more realistic upper limit for most nights
  • Alt-azimuth mount is straightforward to use for beginners but limits serious astrophotography
  • 45-degree erecting diagonal makes daytime terrestrial viewing comfortable and practical
  • Included phone holder and carry bag add convenience for casual outings and sharing images
  • At under $150, this represents an accessible entry point for adults exploring visual astronomy
