Overview
The Celestron Luminos 23mm is a low-power eyepiece designed to give you broad, sweeping views of the night sky without sacrificing optical quality. Its 82-degree apparent field of view puts it in the same category as premium wide-field designs, making it well suited for scanning star clusters, large nebulae, and the Milky Way. The fully multi-coated six or seven element optical system keeps contrast solid and minimizes light loss, which matters when you are chasing faint objects in a dark field.
At 23mm, this eyepiece works best as your go-to for low-power, wide-field work. Pair it with a fast refractor for generous exit pupils and a bright, expansive view, or use it on a longer focal length scope like a Celestron EdgeHD to frame larger targets comfortably. One practical advantage is that all six Luminos eyepieces are parfocal with each other, so swapping to a higher power eyepiece during a session requires minimal refocusing.
The rubber grip, retractable eyecup, and threaded barrel for filters are small details that add up to a more comfortable, practical observing experience. At $249.95, it sits in the mid-range price tier and carries a two-year warranty with US-based support.

What can you say about Luminos eyepieces? First impression, they are big and heavy. Lots of glass and metal that could put you over the limit on your mount if you are already close, but so worth the view! I now own the 31mm, 23mm, 19mm, and 15mm Luminos eyepieces. For the money they are a great valu...
Really a fantastic eyepiece. Going from the stock, 1.25" EPs to this was very cool. This thing is as big as -- and solid as -- a grenade! Make sure you balance your OTA with it on before you use it. Best with a quality diagonal, of course. (I use a Celestron, Dielectric Star 2" on a C9.25 SCT.) Very...
I recently added a 2" Dielectric star diagonal to my C8, after seeing a gorgeous view through a neighbor's scope. When I looked in his 2" eyepiece, it was like looking through a spaceship window instead of the pinhole view I was used to with my 1.25" EP. Your eyes will thank you for it. I chose the ...
