Overview

The Celestron CGX-L 1100 EdgeHD is built for amateur astronomers ready to move beyond casual observing and into serious deep-sky imaging. At its core is an 11-inch EdgeHD Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube, a design that corrects for the field curvature common in standard SCTs. The result is pinpoint stars across the entire frame, which matters enormously when you are photographing large nebulae or galaxy clusters. The 28-pound optical tube sits on the CGX-L equatorial mount, rated to handle up to 55 pounds of equipment, giving you room to add a camera, guide scope, and accessories without stressing the system.

Polar alignment and object acquisition are handled through the NexStar+ hand controller, which accesses a database of over 40,000 objects. Multiple tracking rates cover sidereal, solar, and lunar targets, making long-exposure imaging more reliable. USB connectivity lets you control the telescope through Celestron's CPWI software, and the included Starry Night edition adds planning capability. At $5,999, this is a significant investment.

It rewards observers who are committed to astrophotography or serious visual work and who have the patience to learn equatorial mount operation properly. Beginners would likely find it overwhelming as a first telescope.

The most cost effective way to get to space!

Very capable telescope, worked as expected out of the box, which is pretty good given how complex it is. Great platform for viewing with naked eye and can support astrophotography. Easily resolves colors on Jupiter with the supplied 23mm eyepiece at about 140 magnification. Looks like it will last -...
