Smart telescopes, WiFi mounts and astro cameras contain radios, so most of them need an FCC equipment authorization before they can be sold in the US. Those filings are public and dated, and a grant is often on record before the manufacturer announces the product.
We track 17 filings across the brands we cover. Each one shows when the device was certified, which bands it is authorized on and at what power. Two limits worth stating plainly: these records describe the radio only and say nothing about optics, and a product built on a pre-certified radio module has no device-level filing at all, because the grant belongs to the module maker. Absence from this list is not evidence that a product does not exist.
Manufacturers can ask the FCC to keep internal photos, manuals and schematics confidential for a fixed period. When that period ends the documents are published automatically.

We poll the FCC grantee code for each manufacturer we cover and record every filing it publishes: grant dates, authorized bands, output power, rule parts and the exhibit confidentiality calendar. Grantee codes are verified by hand against the applicant name on the filing, never guessed from a brand name.
A filing is only attached to a product page when we have confirmed the pairing. Names can mislead: a filing whose product code contains a model number is not necessarily the model currently on sale.
The records are public US government filings. We read them through fccid.io, a third-party mirror of the FCC database rather than the FCC itself, and every entry links to the filing so you can check it. See also our scoring methodology.
