Overview
The Celestron Advanced VX 8" Newtonian pairs a 200mm f/5 parabolic mirror with a capable equatorial mount, making it a genuine option for observers who want to explore deep-sky objects visually and eventually step into astrophotography. The 1000mm focal length keeps your field of view wide enough to frame nebulae and star clusters well, while the parabolic primary eliminates the spherical aberration that cheaper mirrors can introduce. The Advanced VX mount handles the tracking side with improved motors, Periodic Error Correction, and NexStar+ GoTo functionality, so aligning and finding objects is straightforward once you learn the system.
All-Star Polar Alignment is a practical inclusion for backyard observers who cannot easily see Polaris. That said, the total system weight of nearly 47kg is a real consideration. This is not equipment you set up casually on a weeknight without some effort.
The optical tube also benefits from collimation checks regularly, which is standard for Newtonian reflectors but worth knowing before you buy. With 29 Amazon reviews averaging 4.2 out of 5, owner feedback is limited, so weigh that accordingly. At $1799, this scope sits at a serious investment level and rewards observers who are ready to commit to the learning curve.

I've been an amateur astronomer for 40 years and I am amazed how good quality the tripod coming with this telescope is. Very sturdy, I am using it to load a C11 also, and the performance is perfect. The optics on the 8" telescope are also very good quality. Great buy!
Super sturdy tripod and mount. Hate that it is made in China but I guess everything is these days.
Absolutely great telescope for the value. Did lots of research before buying. There's so much to learn with this telescope. It has lots of features. It is a little heavy and big but the view was amazing and quality was awesome. I got it as a gift but did return since it just wasn't good timing to ha...
