Overview
The Celestron Advanced VX 7" Maksutov-Cassegrain is built around a long focal length optical design that excels at high-contrast, high-magnification targets. That means planets, the Moon, and double stars are where this scope genuinely shines. The 7" aperture gathers enough light to show Saturn's Cassini Division, Jupiter's cloud bands, and fine lunar detail with clarity that shorter focal length designs struggle to match.
The Advanced VX equatorial mount handles the mechanical side competently, with GoTo and tracking that lets you focus on observing rather than star-hopping. The PointXP mount modeling system allows you to build an alignment model using 100 or more stars, which meaningfully improves pointing accuracy over a session. For those interested in astrophotography, the ASCOM interface opens the door to controlling the mount through third-party software like Sequence Generator Pro or Cartes du Ciel.
At 44kg total, this is not a grab-and-go setup. You will want a permanent or semi-permanent location, and the price reflects the combination of a quality optical tube and a capable computerized mount. The low Amazon rating comes from a very small sample of reviews, so treat that figure cautiously.

I haven’t been able to set this somewhat expensive ($2k) telescope up because it showed up broken and I can’t get a response or call Focus Camera,LLC. I wouldn’t recommend them this far.
