Overview
The Celestron Advanced VX 6-inch Refractor is a capable mid-range telescope that will appeal most to observers and imagers focused on planets, the Moon, and brighter deep-sky objects. The 152mm aperture and f/8 focal ratio combine to produce high-contrast, sharp views, which is exactly what you want when chasing planetary detail or splitting double stars. The unobstructed optical path of a refractor gives it a clean edge over similarly sized reflectors for contrast-sensitive work.
The Advanced VX German equatorial mount handles the mechanical side well. Its GoTo system can locate thousands of objects automatically after a quick three-star SkyAlign setup, and the tracking motors are steady enough to support serious planetary imaging sessions. The mount is rated for imaging loads, though at nearly 45kg total system weight, portability is a genuine consideration.
This is not a grab-and-go setup. At $1699, you are paying for the mount as much as the optic, which makes sense if imaging is your goal. Visual-only observers might find better value elsewhere, but for someone who wants to grow into astrophotography without immediately outgrowing their mount, this package offers a solid foundation worth serious consideration.

Key Features
- 152mm refractor aperture delivers high-contrast planetary and lunar views without a central obstruction blocking fine detail
- f/8 focal ratio suits both visual observing and planetary imaging, keeping coma and aberrations well controlled
- Advanced VX equatorial mount includes GoTo tracking with access to a database of over 40,000 objects
- SkyAlign makes initial alignment straightforward, requiring only three bright objects rather than named stars
- Improved motors handle slight load imbalances, which matters when adding a camera or guide scope
- Meridian-crossing design lets you image through the best part of the sky without motor housing interference
- Total system weight near 45kg means this telescope requires a dedicated observing site or significant transport planning

First of all I would like to extend my many thanks and appreciation to Mr. Stephen Franks for his helpful advice in collimating this telescope because when I received it, it was very much out of adjustment. This is my first telescope I have purchased and have been a long-time lover of Astronomy sinc...
The C6R telescope is a good, not great telescope. The AVX mount is a very good, not great mount. Together the pair is a good combination for routine backyard viewing. The C6R is almost 5 ft 6 in long which makes transporting it anywhere in a vehicle rather problematic. The AVX mount with the 2" alum...
